17 chromosome centromere (CEP17) labeled as orange.
Overview
CEP17 probe (Chromosome Enumeration Probe 17) is used to target the highly repetitive alpha-satellite DNA at the D17Z1 locus, situated at the centromere of chromosome 17 (17p11.1-q11.1). It is one of the most widely used control probes in molecular pathology, serving as the essential "yardstick" for measuring gene amplifications and chromosomal gains.
